CASE STUDY: ADDRESSING OIL IN WATER CHALLENGES
A UKCS operator was experiencing significant issues with consistently high levels of oil in water which was making it difficult to meet regulatory compliance targets. Conventional engineering methods had failed to identify the root causes, so OPEX undertook a data-driven study to address the challenge.
Following a data assessment, our data scientists acquired more than 70 million data points from 600+ instrument tags and xxx.
Over an eight week period our data analysts and engineering subject matter experts worked together to deploy a range of techniques and machine learning algorithms, which helped to identify and understand the key factors within the process/operation that were contributing to high and low levels of oil in produced water.
Using the insights generated from the data science study, our oil and gas engineers worked with the customer’s asset team to define detailed operating conditions (rule sets) so that efforts can be made to control occurrences of high levels of oil in water and reduce the environmental or regulatory impact.
